Starting with plain fabric -we all used cotton or silk - or try hand dyed fabric:

Let your fabric painting dry for at least 24 hours, then heat set it with a hot iron. Betty reports that the fabric painting is washable, cold water, by hand or machine. Line dry or use low setting on the dryer. Do NOT dry clean.
