Gee's Bend Quilts

Some of the Unseamlies went to the Denver Art Museum yesterday to see the Gee's Bend Quilts. It's a fabulous exhibit and we came away inspired to do some free-style quilts with big stitch hand quilting like the ones we saw. We talked about doing the quilting on our quilts together quilting bee style.

One of my favorites was this double sided quilt by Martha Jane Pettway done in the 1920's...so last night and tonight I put together my take on her quilt. No measuring, no rotary cutter, no matching up, no pins and just choosing the fabrics for each strip without too much planning....very freeing and very quick and very fun!
